St Therese’s Little Way

St Therese is a saint for everybody, not just for Catholics. Many Christians of other Churches are strongly drawn to her; and her message, which is simply the Gospel of Christ for our times, has the power to help those of any faith or none.
The ‘Little Way’ is St Therese’ trademark, the core and centrepiece of her spirituality. Therese always wanted to be a great saint but was all too conscious of her poverty and weakness: ‘When I compare myself to the saints it is like the difference between a mountain that soars into the clouds and an obscure grain of sand.’ But she refused to be
discouraged; ‘God,’ she reminded herself, ‘cannot inspire unreasonable desires.’ So she looked for another way, ‘a way that is very short and totally new.’ This we now call the Little Way – the way of spiritual childhood – or, as Therese herself preferred to call it, the way of littleness’.
After the visit of St Therese’ relic’s to the UK in Oct 2009, a few parishioners decided to meet up monthly to discover, pray and discuss more about ‘the way of spiritual childhood’.
All are welcome to visit our meetings. We hope to continue to meet on a monthly basis.
New meeting time is now on a Tuesday evening 7.30pm – 9.00pm in The Walsingham Chapel, Spalding.
Tea and coffee will be available. |

Do you feel welcomed when you come to God's house? Would you like to welcome others as they come into our Church, as you would to your own home?
Welcoming is the first Ministry; this sets the tone for the 'Celebration'. We need many more people to volunteer their time, to be one of the first to arrive and maybe the last to tidy up after Mass. There are also other responsibilities to assist the duty Minister. These include asking people to take up the collection and gifts, manning the doors for the children's liturgy and being alert for any problems that may occur.
It is a wonderful, way to get to know other people in the Parish and to welcome new parishioners, or visitors who may be feeling lost, and make them feel at home. Why not talk to one of our present welcomers and consider joining the team? |

Since moving into our new Church building, Father Barney has prepared about thirty girls and boys to assist at Mass. Two or three training sessions are held in the autumn for those who have recently made their first Holy Communion. After about a year when the Altar Servers feel confident enough to act as Server, Acolyte or book Bearer, they are enrolled into the Guild of St Stephen in recognition of the importance of an Altar Server's liturgical role in the Church. This is a wonderful privilege and Servers should try and assist the priest at Mass whenever they are asked to do so. |

The aim of the Bethany Group, which at present consists of 3 parishioners, is to support those in our Parish who are bereaved. The group meets every two months. We pray for all those who are bereaved, and then one of our members is assigned to a particular bereaved person. The assigned member contacts the bereaved person usually about 4 - 6 weeks after the funeral by telephone or if this is not possible by letter. We aim to give individual personal support by listening and understanding and by being sensitive to the bereaved person's thoughts and feelings. By walking with the bereaved the Bethany Group members hope to help lessen the bereaved person's sense of isolation. |

We are currently a small group of six people who collect, wash, iron and return the small cloths which are used during the distribution of Holy Communion. If you would like to help to maintain a clean supply of cloths for the Priest and the Eucharistic Ministers please join the rota by contacting the parish office. |
