Today’s Mass: Parables are successful because of one peculiar strategy: lead the listener down a well-trod path and, then, let at least one of the characters act in a way that is completely unexpected. It's the unexpectedness that shakes the listener into conversion--the goal of every parable Jesus ever told. The landowner who pays the same wage, even to those who started work only an hour before, is just such a character. And there are few in the Scriptures who better exemplify God's self-description in Isaiah: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways." It also explains Paul's commitment to live a life "worthy of the gospel of Christ"--and to enjoin such living on us all. Divine generosity, which is as prodigal as it is unexpected, should have but one response: gratitude.

WELCOME FR. PAUL: Those of you who were able to be present at the Mass to welcome Fr. Paul will have had the opportunity to meet him already; and those who have not met him yet won’t have too long to wait as he will be covering all Masses next weekend! We welcome him amongst us and hope he will soon feel at home and happy to be here.

PRIEST’S DAY OFF: Fr. Jim will continue to take Tuesday as his usual day off and Fr. Paul will take Thursday as his day off.

IF YOU NEED A PRIEST IN AN EMERGENCY: Fr. Jim will cover the Spalding area which includes Crowland, Deeping St. Nicholas, Donington & Weston Hills. Fr. Paul will cover Holbeach area which includes Moulton, Long Sutton & Sutton Bridge – Please call the Priest’s House nearest to where you are.  Note the days that the priest’s are not around (i.e., Fr. Jim on Tuesday and Fr. Paul on Thursday) and contact whichever priest is available directly.  If for any reason you cannot contact the priest responsible for your area, please do contact the other priest without delay.
